Rabidosa - Rabidosa - female

Rabidosa - Rabidosa - Female
Union Hill, Morgan County, Alabama, USA
July 27, 2008
Size: Approx. 24mm BL
I feel pretty confident that this gal is Rabidosa rabida, however, I wasn't sure I could rule out R. punctulata. So I thought I'd check and see if any of you spider specialists could confirm the ID and offer any distinguishing characteristics between those two. Thanks in advance.

I would say
that rabida is correct. The abdomen pattern on yours is not very distinct, but it's definitely present and distinctly different from other Rabidosa sp. Size also makes me lean a little in that direction.

If you haven't already, check the Rabidosa revision by Brady & McKinley (linked from the Rabidosa page) and see what you think.

Revision paper
That was fantastic! I don't know how I missed that revision paper on the info page. Based on that info, I say you're right and this is clearly rabida. Even if I was off by 1-2mm on the size, she would still be definitively larger than the rest, and the runner up in size - santrita - seems to be a western species. Thanks for the help Jay and for pointing me toward that paper.
