Conenose or Assassin? - Triatoma sanguisuga

Evansville, Vanderburgh County, Indiana, USA
Size: 2 cm

Is this a bloodsucking conenose (Triatoma sanguisuga), a bee assassin (Apiomerus crassipes), or something else? The biology teacher thinks one thing, an entomologist thinks another. A student brought it in to mount in his insect collection, so if you need more pictures I can take them.

Identification of triatoma vs apiomerus

Perhaps it would be helpful to list some of the identifying marks of a conenose vs a bee asassin or vice versa. I know I would appreciate it. Certainly I can look at a triatoma 90% of the time and identify it correctly .... but there are several species of both .. and it would be great if someone could list an identifying feature that would help make a determination.

Thanks for the identification. Does BugGuide or another site tell the habitat range for particular insects? The biology teacher is still amazed that he hasn't seen one of these in student collections in his ~30 yrs of teaching.
