Unidentified insect - Merope tuber

Unidentified insect - Merope tuber
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
September 2, 2008
Size: about 18 mm
Attracted to porch light. Was clinging to glass sliding door. Any help with ID would be appreciated.

Maybe...
Something like this?

It looked like the 'face' of a mecopteran to me, and this is the only one I found with that wing shape.

Thank you
Yes it is similar. I have additional images and I plan to crop them and probably add if they show anything of value to get an ID. But the description does fit. It looked vaguely similar to a Lacewing, but it does hold it's wings flat. After I took several images, my attention went to a moth, I returned hoping to get some more shots of it, the insect had vanished. If it returns, I'll try to capture it.

Additional images
I think any images you add of this quality would add value to the guide--you can see how small the collection of images is, and yours is probably the best. Looks like yours is probably a female, but a side view would remove any doubt.

great find
This is a great find of a seldom-encountered insect. There's only one North American species in the family (two in the world), Merope tuber, so you can move it to that guide page.
Seems like they come to lights occasionally--we have a couple of reports from porch lights. Very cool!
