Wasp night roosting aggregation - Myzinum quinquecinctum - male

Wasp night roosting aggregation - Myzinum quinquecinctum - Male
Coles County, Illinois, USA
August 31, 2008
Size: 2-3 cm
One of many night roosting aggregations of these wasps found on the tips of horsetail about 3 m from the edge of a shallow pond. I'm interested in studying this behavior and was hoping to get an ID on the insect.

Thanks John!
Is the shape of the abdomen the way to tell the sexes apart? I know depressingly little about Hymenoptera other than that they are cool (and complicated). From other pages of this genus it seems like getting it to species isn't something that can be done with photos, but having the genus is a big step forward. Thanks!
