Black Witch cat - Ascalapha odorata

Black Witch cat - Ascalapha odorata
World Birding Center HQ at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
October 23, 2006
This caterpillar was brought to me by a fellow park employee in October 2006. I kept it for a couple of days, until I had time to photograph it and a couple of other cats which had been brought in, and then released it. It then took me a full year and a half - until April 2008 - before I figured out what it was! My TPWD colleague Mike Quinn constructed a web page depicting the Black Witch's life cycle, and I noted the similarity of the caterpillars there with this then-mystery bug.
