Water Strider - Gerris remigis - Aquarius remigis

Water Strider - Gerris remigis - Aquarius remigis
Sunset Bay Park, Coos Bay, Coos County, Oregon, USA
September 3, 2008
Size: Approx. 5/16"
Best photo I could get, these little guys are fast. Many specimens were gathered in the shade by a culvert moving into the light when disturbed. I believe they are "Gerris remigis" but reading through the discussions led to my confusion. I would appreciate a confirmation ID.

Gerris I agree
but I don't know how to tell the species apart.

Thanks Jon, I guess I'll wait and see if someone picks it up for further ID. My confusion started because of a discussion thread referencing aquarious vs gerris. Thanks again.

Definitely Gerris...
but not Gerris (Aquarius) remigis due to size- A. remigis is generally larger (12-15 mm). Alot of the species id of water striders requires examination of the last abdominal segments of the males. Size may be useful for separating some species as well.

Gerris (Aquarius)
Thanks Tim. I could be more than a little off on the size. As I think back they were probably more the size of a remigis.
