Clipwing grasshopper? - Acantherus piperatus - Male
Brown Canyon, Baboquivari Mountains, Pima County, Arizona, USA
July 28, 2008
Size: Small
This appears to be a clipwing grasshopper, but Arizona should be out of range. Any ideas?

Mmm
They never cooperate like that for me. I've yet to see one of this light form here in central NM.

I've often wondered who named all these assorted hoppers "Range Grasshoppers". Such a wide assortment of unrelated species, and many of them don't fit that at all (including this one). Not particularly flattering for such cute and personalble little creatures as this either.

Slant-faced grasshopper.
I just caught one of these in Tucson the other day. Turns out it is the "slender range grasshopper," Acantherus piperatus. Nice shot. These are very wary:-)

Thanks Eric. This one landed
Thanks Eric. This one landed on the hood of my car and wouldn't get off!
