Size: 1 in.
I was photographing Hackberry Butterflies on some Coyote scat when this beetle landed inches away. It plowed under the dung pile effortlessly with its shovel-shaped head. An hour later there was no sign of the scat. Might this be Phanaeus vindex or other sp. in that genus?
