Fruit fly ? - Paracantha cultaris - female

Fruit fly ? - Paracantha cultaris - Female
Manteca, San joaquin County, California, USA
September 7, 2008
Size: near 1 cm
This colorful little fly was found on a Sunflower leaf in a moist field . It appeared to be sucking something from off the Sunflower leaf . It was a really bright and hot day and my camera did not want to focus very well , so even though I took many photos , I only came away with o.k. shots . Hopefully this female can be identified . Thanks for any comments , sincerely Beth
