Spotted Tussock Moth caterpillar? - Lophocampa maculata

Spotted Tussock Moth caterpillar? - Lophocampa maculata
Brighton, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA
September 7, 2008
Size: about 1 inch
When we first saw these we thought they were woolly bear caterpillars but the ones we usually see are a darker orange and have no white hairs. After searching the Internet for awhile, we finally found them under spotted tussock moths. The small host tree had many of these in different sizes--some very small, others over an inch. Are these caterpillars also referred to as woolly bears?
