Sexton Beetle on dead Opossum - Nicrophorus tomentosus

Sexton Beetle on dead Opossum - Nicrophorus tomentosus
Tobico Marsh on Saginaw Bay, Bay City, Bay County, Michigan County, Michigan, USA
September 6, 2008
Size: 3/4 inch
Six of these were working the Opossum body. Some flew in while I was watching. In flight they were a bright, pale yellow and moved very fast. I didn't realize it was the same insect until I saw one land.

Easy one
to recognize, only silphid with the yellow fur on the pronotum is Nicrophorus tomentosus
