Found this grasshopper while out for a walk yesterday. Can anyone identify it?

Nymph of bird grasshopper.
This is the nymph (wing pads) of a bird grasshopper, genus Schistocerca. Note large size for a nymph, plus the striped eyes.

thanks so much for the info. I am still very new to insect study. Are the striped eyes indicative of anything particular?

Not sure what you mean. It is just one clue to the identity of the genus.

I didn't realize that you meant the striped eyes were particular to this genus. Thanks, I get it now.
