Soldier fly - Ptecticus trivittatus

Soldier fly - Ptecticus trivittatus
Baiting Hollow, Suffolk County, New York, USA
September 8, 2008
Size: circa 8 mm.
Taken late afternoon in the garden.

There was a group of about 4-5 of these flies wildly chasing each other.

This fly has unusual green markings on his thorax and abdomen that are not due to a strange camera effect. They are also present in the red tomato image.
