watched a pair of these land on some wind chimes early evening and they hung out for several hours.

I just found on of these on the weekend in Toronto. Xenox tigrinus. Quite large. I found it stationary on a woodpile.

Parasites of carpenter bees.
This species is a parasite of carpenter bees, so look for them where you see carpenter bees (Xylocopa) nesting.
