Golden Rod Visitor - Megacyllene robiniae
Franklin, Norfolk County, Massachusetts, USA
September 7, 2008
Size: .5" to 1" inch
This critter was found on one of out Golden Rods flowers. It was in the afternoon and he wasn't too skittish. He was about the size of a hornet and eventually flew off.
Any idea what kind of insect this is?

It's a Locust Borer
see guide page. They seem to love goldenrod - check out all the other images.
