Insect - Tenodera sinensis

Insect - Tenodera sinensis
Schuyler, Colfax County, Nebraska, USA
September 9, 2008
Size: about 3 inches
What kind of bug is this?

Beautiful
picture! Once in a lifetime opportunity!

WHAT A GREAT SHOT
I had no idea they spread their wings in this manner. Thanks for posting this. I just saw 4 females that looked just like yours (and one smaller male). These females look even larger than last year in the same spot. I noticed there are less Japanese beetles on the bushes they are in.....I was wondering if this is why they are larger.

One of the Mantids
Perhaps Chinese Mantid (Tenodera aridifolia sinensis)
