White wheat grub - Phyllophaga lanceolata

White wheat grub - Phyllophaga lanceolata
Star School Hill Prairie Conservation Area, Atchison County, Missouri, USA
July 12, 2008
Size: ~16-17mm
On soil surface below vertical loess bluff. This species is unusual due to its conspicuous covering of scales (most species of Phyllophaga are glabrous or with sparsely scattered and indistinct setae) and by being active during the day. They are also relatively poorer fliers and are usually seen moving about on foot.
