Crackling Grasshopper, 12:06pm - Chortophaga viridifasciata - male

Crackling Grasshopper, 12:06pm - Chortophaga viridifasciata - Male
Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
June 23, 2008
It sounded like a Crane fly buzzing around loudly at first and I traced the sound to this very jumpy grasshopper. It had clear wings if this helps in I.D..
Coming from England where the country is all noise-less grasshoppers when flying (or at least noise-less in this crackling/clicking way) I had absoulutely no idea what that sound was.

First Adult Grasshopper of 2008.

Chortophaga viridifasciata
A common spring grasshopper. Not as noisy as some of the ones that are probably flying up there now.

Thanks,
been searching for this one for ages.
