These critters are, at times, fairly common around our butterfly garden, and partial to Whitebrush (Aloysia gratissima: Verbenaceae) as shown here. I had been misidentifying them as Trypherus until today; I looked at the LRGV beetle list and discovered that this species has been documented down here and the very similar Trypherus not.
