Probably very common. Seemed very intent on trying to crawl on me. I usually submit but this
spider had a slightly sinister way about it. Is it dangerous?

not sinister and not dangerous. I'm going to leave this one to John and Jane. They have a better grasp on the patterns than I do.

 
Interesting, you would think with this beautiful
image that ID would be obvious, but...
We think we see shoulder humps on the abdomen meaning this would be one of the Araneus, but not quite sure which. Will have to return to it and stare at it some more later!

Male Cross Orbweaver?
My vote is for Araneus diadematus.

Looks like -
a wandering male spider - probably one of the orb weavers. I don't think this spider would be dangerous at all - but let's see what one of our spider experts has to say. Nice image!
