caterpillar and friends day 13 - Spilosoma virginica

caterpillar and friends day 13 - Spilosoma virginica
Puyallup, Pierce County, Washington, USA
September 12, 2008
Size: big orange=40 mm
Orange, white and yellow caterpillars. I found two of this guys buddies out on my plants. I brought them in to get a shot of the color differences. Big orange is on the far left, he is up to 60 petals (3 flowers) in 24 hours.

On day 15 the caterpillar reduced its eating to around 40 petals (2 flowers).
On day 16 the caterpillar does not seem interested in eating and is wandering around. It appears to be searching for something. I hope it has what it needs if it is ready to pupate.

I like this series
and your diligence in recording the petal count - so often people want to know how much damage a caterpillar will do if they leave it alone.

One suggestion: you might consider modifying your titles to be more informative - the more images in a series, the less you want to have to open each one to find out what it's about, and viewing titles in thumbnails can be helpful. Images two and four could be "White hairy caterpillar turns orange x days later," for example.

Thanks Hannah,
I've change some of the titles.
