Brown Widow??? - Latrodectus geometricus - Female
South Sarasota County, Florida, USA
September 13, 2008
We've been watching this one for about a week now. Thought it was getting pretty big. Laid an egg sac last night.
Ferocious appetite. Ate a huge wolfe spider yesterday, over 3x her size.

Yes, brown widow
that egg sac is highly distinctive.

Thank you.
Thanks:)

Brown Widow
I am VERY VERY VERY (did I say very enough?) afraid of these guys. I have them ALL over the carport (or did over the summer) along with a few black widows too. However, the browns way out numbered the blacks and each day I was working very hard to eliminate, or at best, control them. I have an eleven month old baby and I am high concerned about one of these guys catching us as we get out of our car and come inside that we may inadverdantly transport one, or when she gets older and want to play outside that she may pick up something and get bitten underneath. In fact, our next door neighbor's daughter (who I graduated with and is now in her early 30's) STILL has seizures from time to time that orginated with a spider bite from a suspected Brown Recluse or Widow. What is the reccommended way to deal with them?
