Cotinis on Lantana - Cotinis mutabilis

Cotinis on Lantana - Cotinis mutabilis
World Birding Center HQ at Bentsen-Rio Grande Valley State Park, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA
September 7, 2007
Not sure which Cotinis would be found this far south; Mike Quinn's list for Cameron County, next door to Hidalgo, lists no species from this genus (and on a list of over 1000 species, you'd think a conspicuous monster like this would have been noticed!). This one was on Texas Lantana (L. horrida).

Moved
Moved from Cotinis. Ed Riley agreed with Philip. He added "hind femora should be dark metallic green, not brown overlain with greenish luster". Looks about right...

three sp.
See pg. 11 of Texas List - this is probably C. mutabilis
