Giant Fly - Tabanus atratus - female

Giant Fly - Tabanus atratus - Female
York, York County, South Carolina, USA
September 14, 2008
Size: app. 1.4 inches
From looking around the site I gather that this is a Black Horse Fly but I'd like to know if this one is unusually large. From measuring the bricks I calculated the length at about 1.4 inches from the tip of the head to the end of the thorax.

The norm
This species can definitely grow to over an inch long. I have a female in my collection that is 1.25 inches long. Yours is also a female, as the eyes are separated at the top of the head region.
