Carrion beetle eating small rodent - Nicrophorus tomentosus
Chalco Hills Recreation Area, Sarpy County, Nebraska, USA

Size: 1-1 1/2 inches
My husband and I were walking along the trail and saw this dead rodent. Suddenly it started moving and this colorful orange and black beetle crawled out from under the animal.
