copper/green Bup - Agaeocera scintillans

copper/green Bup - Agaeocera scintillans
Yetman Trail, Tucson Mts., Pima County, Arizona, USA
September 17, 2008
Size: 1 cm
Exquisitely colored little Bup (or click beetle?). Looks similar to Agaeocera scintillans, but slightly different. Hope a beetle person will weigh in, would like an ID if possible. Thanks

I'd suggest Agaeocera. If you kept 'em I'd like 'em :-)

Hey Will,

Hey Bob just to satisfy my flora curiousity, do you know what plant these guys were on?

Hello William -
I'm not sure, but I think the plant is some species of Brickellia.

Bup I'd say
I know, that's no great help. Bob, I'm trying to put together a field guide for AZ beetles. You've probably seen my photos from around Tucson. Would you mind giving me some specific description on how to find these guys? I'd like to photograph and include them. My e-mail: mbrummermann@comcast.net
By the way, yesterday I found (and posted) the mature color version of the interesting tortoise beetle that you posted last year.

Hi Margarethe
I responded to your post yesterday and it sounds like you never got it? But, you did answer my question: i.e., was the metallic beetle ( I gave you the bugguide# of the one I posted recently)the adult? Anyway, thanks. As for the exact location of these guys: I tried to locate them on the way back after hiking a mile up the Yetman trail and failed to find them. They were on the common heart-shaped leaves along the trail about 1/4 mile from Camino De Oeste Trailhead. That trailhead is just off Speedway about 1/4 mile. Sorry I can't be of more help - but give it a try, you might get lucky.
