can you give me any more info from my two pictures... I have never seen one this big before and with the claws in the front.. can you tell me what the claws are for?

 
i'm not sure what you mean...
...by 'claws in the front'
it's a typical horsefly, perhaps a fairly large one; in most insects each tarsus bears a pair of claws at the distal end... i don't understand your question. You'll find plenty on the web by searching for 'Tabanidae' or 'horse and deer flies'
