Mosquito - Culex territans - male

Mosquito - Culex territans - Male
Burlington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
September 19, 2008
Size: 5 mm
Midge? Male mosquito? It's at the top of the shady side of a rock, just at the edge of where sunlight strikes. I saw what I think was a female mosquito on the same rock earlier in the week.

Moved from Culex.

Oops! I think this may be Culex territans, due to the apical light stripes on the tergites.

Male mosquito.
I don't know of any male midges that have long palps like this (two things projecting between the antennae in this image).

...
Looks like a Culex, either restuans or pipiens
