Sphex Wasp ??? - Sphex lucae - Sphex lucae - female

Sphex Wasp ??? - Sphex lucae - Sphex lucae - Female
Elkton, Douglas County, Oregon, USA
July 13, 2008
Size: approx. 5/8 inch
Could this be a Sphex Wasp?

Maybe.
Most people overestimate the size of the insect, but I think you may have underestimated in this case. Five-eighths of an inch is quite small for a female Sphex lucae, which I believe this to be.
