Syrphid Fly - Sericomyia - female

Syrphid Fly - Sericomyia - Female
Coos Bay, Coos County, Oregon, USA
September 19, 2008
Size: 1/2"
Seen early afternoon feeding on "Blue Horizon", a member of the Astor family. There are a large number of these around the gardens at Shore Acres Park.

Syrphid Fly
Many of them are wasp or bee mimics. This is a female - eyes don't meet at the top - and that's about all I know about this one.

Sericomyia sp.
Nice to see another lovely insect from my old stompin' grounds (Oregon, not Coos Bay in particular). This specimen is in the genus Sericomyia. If you all had my book (Kaufman Field Guide to Insects of North America), you would have found it there:-) LOL! It's late, I'm having fun...

Thanks
Thanks for the ID help. I'll look for your book, thanks again.
