Size: at least 1 inch
We found this spider in water plants in my little goldfish pond. The stick in the lower right of the photo is about 1/4" so that may give an idea of size. I would like information on this guy, I don't mind spiders but am wary of sticking my hands in the water now. Thanks, Joy

Male trapdoor spider
I'm pretty sure this is a male trapdoor spider. He was probably wandering in search of a mate and fell in to the pond. Compare:
