Rhipicerid - Sandalus niger - Female
Madison; UW-Madison Campus, Dane County, Wisconsin, USA
September 21, 2008
Size: ~1 in.
Yesterday and today I've found a bunch of females on the cement outside of a building on campus, and relocated them to adjacent trees. Starting to wonder if they think the building is a massive tree. The only males I've seen were dead on the cement.

Moved from Sandalus.

nice sandals, Jeff!
neve seen'em alive :-[

Thanks
Up until yesterday, neither had I. Yesterday, my friend Rachel found one on our building's patio. So I decided to explore other parts of campus. Now I know where the 'hot spot' is. Maybe next year I can get some pics of males. Probably too late this year. I'm about to head out and see if any of the females I relocated have attracted mates.

update
Actually found a couple of mating pairs later in the afternoon. I was getting ready to photograph one of the pairs when the male noticed my presence and took off. The second pair was about 20 feet up in a tree. Maybe next weekend...

lucky you:
when males notice my presence, it's usually me who takes off...
