Black witch? - Ascalapha odorata
Ski Roundtop - near Lewisberry, York County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 21, 2008
Size: 6 inch range
I saw this moth against my window two nights ago. I first thought it was a bat. I think it may be a Black Witch moth, possibly one that came north because of Hurricane Ike. Anyway, I'd just like confirmation of the sighting, if that's possible from the photo. I know they are rare as far north as I am. Thanks! Carolyn H.

yup
you're right. It's a black witch. I see them all the time in Mexico, and they're unmistakable.
