Rhaphiomidas acton Female on Eriogonum fasciculatum - Rhaphiomidas acton - female

Rhaphiomidas acton Female on Eriogonum fasciculatum - Rhaphiomidas acton - Female
near Valyermo, Los Angeles Co., Bob's Gap Rd. County, California, USA
July 4, 2005
Size: over 30 mm.
The females are so large that they sometimes rest on the flower clusters when nectaring, but they are still able to fly away quickly when you get too close... I was about 8 inches away from her when I got this shot.
