Gave me a chuckle
First one of these I saw was on an asphalt trail in Washington DC. My granddaughter was trying to catch it with a net. That was complicated by the fact that the butterfly really blended in with the trail, plus every time it landed, it was in the pose you show - looking straight at us and so thin as to be almost imperceptible.

Back home in Southern California, I still find these tough to shoot. Nice work on your series, Fran.

Thanks, Ron. The picture on the gravel was taken last summer - and it was like finding gold to have one stay in one spot when I was so close!
The other two were thanks to a rainstorm... the mourning cloak landed on the camper window screen to avoid the rain, and of course I'm out getting soaked to get a pic!

I like your gray hairstreak and marine blue photos - beyootiful aren't they :)

I do enjoy shooting butterflies and think tiger swallowtails are my best subjects.
