This is the largest prey item I have ever witnessed a goldenrod spider grab out of the air. It was amazing to watch, and the crab spider would have held on during a tumble to the ground if they had not both gotten stuck further down the plant. The dragonfly was disabled rather quickly with precise injection in the ventral part of the thorax.

Handsome dragonfly!
I don't recall any with such intricate wing markings. One of our dragonfly experts should be able to ID it.

Elisa skimmer.
The dragonfly is an elisa skimmer, Celithemis elisa. That really is amazing:-) That crab spider is 'da MAN!' Oops, I mean woman, see as how she's a female.

Calico Pennant
is another name for Celithemis elisa apparently.

Thanks!
I thought it was a Calico. There were all sorts of different dragons and damsels zipping around in that area.

I thought it was kind of neat that the pinkish color spots on the calico's wings nearly match the pinkish stripes on the crab spider.

It was an amazing scene to watch.

Amazing!
Well done.
