Beetles on Sunflower - Acmaeodera flavomarginata

Beetles on Sunflower - Acmaeodera flavomarginata
San Antonio, Government Canyon, Bexar County, Texas, USA
September 26, 2008
These pretty beetles were common on Friday, frequenting the Maximillian Sunflowers in the canyons.

Yes...
Acmaeodera flavomarginata.

Wow.
Looking at the thumbnail of this image, it dawns on me that these might be "reverse" firefly mimics. The red on the "tail" end looks very much like the pronotal shield at the 'front' of a firefly. Amazing.

Funny
When I first saw the image, I looked in firefly and click beetles for a minute before I took a second look and corrected myself!

How about
Acmaeodera flavomarginata (Yellow-bordered Flower Buprestid) ??
