I didn't know it was a male, thank you. I found five of them decorating my shed door one morning early this week. I view them with mixed emotions... So happy to see them within their short life span as an adult, but saddened to know these colorful giant moths, like my other temporary guests, a Luna and Cecropia, have an "Oh, too short" life.

Imperial Moth
An Imperial Moth has recently been in the news. Some man found one in his RV and thought it a "sign" becaused he could see the face of Jesus in the moth. If he subscribed to Bug Guide, he'd known all Imperials look like that. Actually, it looks more like Osama Bin Laden.

Robert, I remember reading about that. (Laughing)Well whoever they look like, I've got five of them and six hours after sunrise, they are still there. Thanks for your informative comments.

Thank you very much. In the past I have found beautiful large moths under our shed light. This was the first time I had 5 of the same species.
