Another pygmy mole cricket -
Ellipes minuta
East or West Feliciana Parish, Louisiana, USA

Not sure if this is a different species from the ones I found in Mississippi
or just variation in pattern...

Ellipes minuta
would be the correct species for Louisiana.

Thanks
I wonder if I have this one wrong?
My estimated measurement would seem to make it too big for Ellipes, but maybe my estimate was off (it was based on the photo, months after I could accurately remember how big it was)... this one was found within a few feet of the one above.

Interesting
Thanks for checking these. Well, I do remember feeling like there were two different sizes, but wasn't sure if they were adults & immatures or what.

I'm so...
...unbelievable jealous of you... XD
I've never seen one of these live, nor have I seen a true mole cricket in the flesh.
It's funny how these guys are grasshoppers & true mole crickets are in with katydids & true crickets.

Mole crickets
I too have yet to find a true mole cricket, even though I was specifically looking for them on this trip--which was frustrating since I keep reading references to their being pests in some places! But these guys were definitely a good consolation prize.

I'm sure they were! :D
I've had many trips like that, but not usually with the consolidation prize. XD
Since the seasons are changing, I've gone from mostly photographing insects to actually snapping photos of mushrooms (which I can't post here for obvious reasons. XD)
