Tibicen lyricen Male - Tibicen lyricen - male

Tibicen lyricen Male - Tibicen lyricen - Male
Lowell/St. Patrick Cemetery, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
July 3, 2005
Size: 45 mm with wings
First Tibicen lyricen of the season. This male specimen was found newly emerged prior to the males calling in the trees. This specimen was found on a downed branch between a pine tree and an ash tree (though I suspect the ash tree was it's host plant as T. lyricens seem to prefer ash trees). This specimen was chilled then posed on a Dogwood tree in my yard. This specimen measures 45 millimeters with the wings and 30 millimeters without.
