Iowa bug? - Hexagenia - female

Iowa bug? - Hexagenia - Female
Iowa, USA
August 6, 2008

Hexagenia
A female imago. The majority of specimens in the Hexagenia section are versions of the transcontinental and highly variable species H. limbata. This one is too pale to be either H. atrocaudata or bilineata, but the dorsal markings of H. rigida can be very similar to some of the limbata variants. All of these species are recorded for your state, but this is probably limbata.

Mayfly
see here for general info. Probably someone else can take it further.
