Coreid nymph on prickly pear - Chelinidea tabulata

Coreid nymph on prickly pear - Chelinidea tabulata
Big Bend National Park, Brewster County, Texas, USA
July 15, 2008
Found on prickly pear, right next to an agave with adult coreids that I believe were Acanthocephala thomasi:

(3/14/08 Note: I had originally said this bug was on agave, but taking another look at the image it's obviously on a prickly pear; you can see part of the spines in the corners of this cropped image. It seems to be feeding, so probably unrelated to the adults.)

Thanks Valerie--that explains why I couldn't find a match before!

Chelinidea tabulata
These nymphs are pretty distinctive - always the same color and shape, and never more than a few in any given location. They can even be mixed in with lots of C. vittiger in Austin, TX, where both species occur.

Moved from Leaffooted Bugs.

Interesting.
The flattened, leaf-like legs rule-out Piezogaster nymphs, but it looks odd for an Acanthocephala, too....
