300 - Amara rubrica

300 - Amara rubrica
Medford, (~25 miles east of Philadelphia, PA) Burlington County, New Jersey, USA
October 4, 2008
found these gound beetles in some numbers on goldenrod flowerheads. They seemed to be on the post-bloom heads rather than ones currently blooming - eating the seeds? In the bright sunlight they had a nice deep red/brown color, which proved difficult to capture indoors. I'm not sure I've seen these before - Amara? In any case, these will mark beetle species #300 for my backyard survey.

Amara
I would say Amara is a good bet.
