Darkling Beetle - Tenebrio molitor

Darkling Beetle - Tenebrio molitor
Hampshire County, Massachusetts, USA
July 2, 2004
Size: ~13 mm
Looks a lot like a Tenebrio sp. (Mealworm). Compare with fig. 109 in "Peterson's Field Guide to Beetles" (1), p. 255.

Moved

But IS mealworm - I´ll move it.
Don is right: mealworms are not often found outside - but it occurs! Nests in hollow trees can be considered their original habitat - and sometimes they switch to nostalgic habits!

:-)

Centronopus calcaratus?
It does look like Tenebrio molitor, but I wouldn't expect to see these outside in our area. Centronopus calcaratus is much more likely.

Thanks Donald!
I read your bio, it's great to see a New England specialist:)
