Crawling on the ground on steep, eroded red clay slopes in shortgrass prairie. I saw several of these at this site and at two other sites in extreme northwestern Nebraska - all crawling on the ground in a most un
Megacyllene-like way. If truly
Megacyllene comanchei, this would represent a 700-mile range extension from south-central Kansas (itself a significant northern range extension from the type locality in Texas - see
MacRae & Rice 2007). However, it has been suggested that
M. comanchei is not distinct from
M. angulifera. Further
discussion about this can be found on my website,
Beetles In The Bush.
