Water Scavenger Beetle - Hydrochara soror
Hwy 55 and Sedwick, Durham County, North Carolina, USA

Size: 16 mm
Found at a light and captured. Length measured by photographing adjacent to a scale. Posed in a dish of water. Based on size and the length of the spine on the underside, this would appear to be a Hydrochara. See the photo below for discussion:
