Lone Cicada - Tibicen linnei

Lone Cicada - Tibicen linnei
Greencastle, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, USA
September 15, 2008
Size: 2 inches
This lone cicada emerged off season. It was the only one I've seen this year.

Moved
Moved from Tibicen figuratus.

Tibicen linnei
T. figuratus is NOT green at all!

Tibicen linnei
The strong arc in the costal vein coupled with bright green coloration is indicative of T. linnei.

T. figuratus is a dark reddish-brown species and from a lateral profile more dorso-ventrally compressed (not nearly so domed!).

Agreed
You beat me to this one Bill! T. figuratus is not known to be in Pennsylvania because it is too far north for that species. The extreme bend in the costal margin is indicative of T. linnei.

Nice shot.
I have no quibble with your species ID, but I do wonder how you accomplished that. There are no credentials listed on your bio page. We do strive for accuracy here, and like to know how IDs are achieved if it is not obvious. Thank you, keep up the great imaging, and thank you for sharing here!
