Ammophila sp. - Ammophila nigricans

Ammophila sp. - Ammophila nigricans
Huntley Meadows Park, Fairfax County, Virginia, USA
July 4, 2005
Size: Approx. 1 inch, I think
Hanging out in meadow. Seemed to be nectaring. Unfortunately, I didn't get very good profile pictures of the thorax.

A. nigricans.
I cautiously suggest this is Ammophila nigricans. It is the only eastern Ammophila species I am familiar with that has black wings. They can get even bigger than an inch, I'm pretty sure. Very robust for a genus of generally stick-thin wasps:-)

I agree
looks like nigricans
