Tibicen tibicen
This species has much larger opercula (flaps over the "eardrums") than T. lyricen, and green rather than orange markings. (T. chloromerus has recently been synonymized with T. tibicen).

Regarding Tibicen lyricen vs. T. tibicen
NOTE: Both species may in fact have reds, red-browns and greens in various combinations dorsally, however, the ventral features are always diagnostic!

Key features of lyricen
Dark eyes (Dark brown to Black)
Always has a black pronotal collar
Brown legs (when alive, legs held tightly to sides when alarmed)
Black ventral stripe on abdomen (both sexes)
short brown opercula in males

Key features of T. tibicen
Green eyes (vary from Dark-olive green to Yellow-olive green)
Usually has a black pronotal collar (some geographic variations may not!)
Green legs (when alive, legs held up & bunched together when alarmed - like in the image here)
NO Black ventral stripe on abdomen (both sexes)
Long ochreous opercula often heavily pruinose (Males)

Great information.
Thanks!
