Phantom Crane Fly - Bittacomorpha clavipes

Phantom Crane Fly - Bittacomorpha clavipes
Moccasin Lake, Winston, Douglas County, Georgia, USA
October 10, 2008
This is the latest in the year I've ever observed one of these. I see a lot of them during the hot summer months, but it is getting cooler now with fewer insects. I was suprised to see it show up and being attracted to light. Unfortunately he got tangled in a spider web and lost one of his legs while I was trying to free him.
